shacky, if your scoot is a 99-03, it uses plugs to add air into the exhaust to clean up the emissions so we don't single-handedly destroy the planet beyond all recognition (if you listen to the politicians and the UN). The 04-present take the flanges. It just depends on the year of your bike. You can get a kit for either type of air injector.

You need to remove or disable the AIS as that is the source of your popping.

The AIS 'injects' fresh air in the exhaust stream to burn up unburned fuel. What you are hearing is the after burn which is muffled by the stock exhaust. With the slipons it is noticeable.

Thanks Doc! So the flow is going into those cylinder hoses to add to the exhaust flow? When I first read about AIS I thought there was a connection to the exhaust pipes. But now I think I get it!

What's the purpose then of the intake manifold connection? Just for vacuum for the system?
