Popping through Carb and Exhaust Pipe 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I have noticed as the weather has been colder (60 degrees today) that I get a cough from my carb on startup when the engine is warm. Also, if I pull in for gas or a coffee and shut the bike down, I get one pop. Only occurs at idle. Should I tweak out the PMS screw a 1/4 turn? Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Topher

I don't know if I would call 60 colder as far as the bike running but I suppose it's possible. Have you changed anything else lately? Different gas station?

Uh......forgot to mention something, I did turn the accel duration screw all the way in with the nut behind the bracket. Maybe this is my problem? Is it too far in?

If the problem started after you did it try putting it back where it was and see what happens.

Hey Musky,

I figured out what was going on. I had turned the PMS to 1 7/8 and had my needle on 3rd clip but with 2 washers on the bottom ( effectively 3.5)......Well all hell broke loose today when I got on her, coughing through the carb, hesitating off idle, ran like Sh*t. I guess through this excercise I have found how lean I can go before the bike starts acting up. I made some changes by going back to 4th clip and adjusted the PMS to 2 1/8 and voila......my bike was back. Thanks for your advise on going back to where I started with changes.

Well, yes sir. That was a few changes all right Most of the time if something goes haywire it's cuz we screwed something up. That's why it's good to only change 1 thing at a time. Not that I listen to that advice but it's the best way to do things. Saves on backtracking. Glad she's running good again.

Musky or Doc
Got another question regarding deceleration and the bike stuttering?
I have noticed that upon deceleration, the slower I am moving the more pronounced the stutter is. Seems to be worse with cooler temperatures. Any ideas where to look.

Thanks

Are you sure your not going so slow that the bike is lugging? Is it happening with the clutch engaged?

Ditto ... may be too low revs for the gear.
