Any thoughts on whether the DJ needle set on 4th groove in conjunction with a mukuni 170 mainjet is a winner. Hope so ,cause I rode down to my dealer and picked one up in anticipation of installing it this weekend. Dan

Yes it will work.

Just might take a bit more of fiddling. What size shims did you get with the DJ needle (identified by color - silver, purple, gold)?

I'll have to check, I just moved the stock stuff from the stock needle directly to the DJ needle (washer, clip, white spacer, washer). Just looked in the DJ kit, one silver spacer, that's it.Dan

The silver spacer is a 1/2 clip.

Re:Mileage 5 Years, 8 Months ago
so would it be wise to stick in the mukuni 170 in place of the DJ175 I already have in there and leave it be? Just a memory re-fresher,I'm running a DJ needle on the 4th groove from the top, all stock spacers in original location, stock pilot jet, Idle mixture screw turned out 3 turns from closed.

Doc,

I have tried changing the main from 172.5 to 170 to 167.5 with PMS at 2 turns and I can't get more than 42 MPG even if I drive real conservative.
Can I try going from the 4th to the 3rd clip or do you think this will lean out the circuit too much?

Thnaks

Yes it might work better. Usually most of us use very little throttle so the needle is the most critical circuit.

If it doesn't run as well on the 3rd then try an extra silver washer.

hiya den,
left hand side of the keyboard, third key up, caps lock. makes things easier to read

if you can, don´t go for hi-test unless you´re running hi-comp pistons. on a roadie you´ll build up carbon, and the only folks that´ll benefit are the gas company shareholders.

having said that, the LOWEST octaine fuel available here in europe is 95!
