Why do I want BAK? 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I thought about doing the poor man's BAK. What are the advantages? Why do I want to do this?

Thanks,
Chad

To get better performance. But you don't want to do it unless you want to go to a more open exhaust and jet the carb.

Would you mind detailing more open exhaust? I have the V&H Longshots. Rejetting is not a problem thanks to the clinic. I just want to know if I should fool with it or leave it alone.

Performance is a good thing; right?

More open than stock. V&H Longshots are a more open exhaust. Some people do the poormans and then are unhappy when they find out they need to jet. And some people don't want to jet at all. More performance is a good thing if that's what you want. Some people are perfectly happy with the stock bike. If you want to bump the performance and don't mind jetting then the poormans will help.

Currently getting about 37 mpg with stock carb/air setup. Will be rejetting in September and, due to being cheap , I'll be doing the poorman's BAK. My Xmas list will have a chrome carb goodie on it for sure. But till then I'll use the poorman's Bak to dial it in so once I get the good stuff it'll just be a matter of a minor tweak here and there. I've been riding since Moses did his Red Sea thing and I gotta tell ya, the R* is the most user friendly scoot I've ever had the pleasure to own.

Poor mans BAK is a do it yourself modification of the stock airbox to achieve nearly (or the same) performance gain you'd get from purchasing an air kit like Barons. Basically you drill holes in the stock box.
