Another Carb Question for the experts 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have a 2006 stock Road Star with Khrome Werks Slipons and 1 - 1 1/2 " hole cut in the airbox where it won't show. Carb is stock and has never been opened. Bike runs great and has very little popping on decel. AIS is intact. Choke appears to be working normally. Fuel mileage is poor around 36 mostly highway at 1888 altitude one up. Mileage on bike is 800 and oil is 20w50 Lucas motorcycle oil. Running 87 octane and it all has 10% ethanol around here. My question is.....stock main jet is 182.5 and I have a 180 laying around (both are Mikuni jets). Would it be worth my time and effort to try the 180 and tweak the PMS to help the fuel mileage? No signs of running rich except the new pipes got slight buildup of soot in 250 miles and fuel mileage is somewhat poor and sometimes an exhaust pop after shutting off motor..

Thanks in advance for the help.

P.S. I am going to check the plugs in a day or two. Bike had 180 miles on it when i bought it and was 1 1/2 years old.

Bob

No.

Firstly .... you have only 800 miles ... wait until you break it in.

Secondly ... if it only had 180 miles over 1 1/2 years the carb may be gummed up. Take the carb apart , check it out and give it a good cleaning.

According to the title it was traded in at a HD dealer in Miami Florida. Don't know the circumstances. It was not a wreck rebuild. It came to Kansas and had 187 actual miles on it. They were asking $8200 for it and I made them put a windshield on it and trade out the spoke wheels for cast. Pretty good deal I think.
