A STARTING POINT (JETTING)? 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
I JUST INSTALLED A SPEEDSTAR BIG AIR KIT LAST WEEK ON MY 07 I REPLACE SLIDE NEEDLE WITH DG NEEDLE WITH CLIP 4TH FROM BUT END
I ALSO ORDERD A SET OF DG ROAD BURNER ROAD PROS WITH SLT AND AIS REMOVAL KIT SHOULD BE IN TOMMAROW. WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD A SIMALAR SET UP AND WHAT YOUR JETTING IS AND ADJUSTMENTS ARE
JUST LOOKING FOR A STARTING POINT SO I DONT HAVE TO TAKE THE CARB APART TO MANY TIMES AND DONT CARE AS MUCH FOR THE PERFORMANCE AS I DO FOR THE DRIVABILITY. IM NOT SURE IF YOU HAVE TO SACRAFICE ONE FOR ANOTHER OR IF THERES A HAPPY MEDIUM WITH THESE BIKES.
IM JUST QUOTING FROM PAST EXPERIENCE
FROM WHAT IVE BEEN READING ON THIS SITE SO FAR YOU GUYS ARE THE PRO'S WHEN IT COMES TO ROADSTARS . I THINK THE YAMAHA DEALERS SHOULD READ THE TECH SECTION HERE, MAYBE THEY WILL LEARN SOMETHING.
THANKS FOR ANY THOUGHTS YOU HAVE ON MY JETTING

Make sure you have the float level right and no air leaks on the intake or exhaust before you start jetting.
You only got 3 jets with the kit? Anyway the DJ main most likely to succeed is the 180 which they don't send with the kit. You didn't say what your elevation is. So try the 175, clip in the 5th groove from the blunt end, PMS 2 1/2 to 3 turns out. Do the WOT. If the main checks out put the clip in the 4th groove and tweak the needle and PMS from there.

That little bit of elevation change doesn't matter but elevation itself is important. You are leanest at sea level and get richer as you go up. Leave the stock pilot in there. You might need to pick up a 180 DJ main or a 167.5 and a 170 Mik main.

THANKS MUSKY AND ROADSTAR RIDER
WHY DOES DIFFERENT JET MANUFACTURERS HAVE DIFFERENT JET NUMBERS I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE NUMBER MEANT A CERTAIN MEASUREMENT OR GAUGE IN HOLE SIZE? OH AND I FORGOT TO ASK, THE AIS REMOVAL WILL THAT REALLY BE NECESSARY OR SHOULD I WAIT AND SE IF I NEED TO REMOVE IT?

This will explain the difference between Mik and dyno numbering - Mik vs Dyno
You don't have to take the AIS off but it will be easier to do it while you have the bike apart to do the jetting anyway.
