Good news . I ran a tank of gas with seafoam through her today and averaged 38 mpg in varied conditions. I rode up to the Jemez mountains, stopped into the nationally famous Los Ojos bar for a cold one . Then back down the long way around Albuquirky. Good ride and now running a lot smoother with better power . I got just a little backfire on hard decelleration, so I plan on turning the PMS screw out about an eighth of a turn.
In summary: CHECK YOU CHOKE CABLE! If it's stretched, all the setting you set up will be suspect.
Thanks to everyone for your help and information.

I've been going in circles trying to get the carb on my 2007 Midnight Silverato dialed in. I finally checked the choke cable and found the cable housing on the knob end of the cable had come completely loose. I trimmed a bit of the rubber outer housing, applied some JB Weld and slid it back together. It looks like it will hold ok so I tried trimming the knob a little but I was unable to get a gap between the knob and the base of the cable. So I pulled the tank to check the other end of the cable and found that when I pushed the knob all the way in the other end of the cable was pushing out of the nut that is supposed to hold it in the carb. Is there supposed to be a ferrule of something like that crimped on the tube at the carb end of the cable? It would have to be something that would allow the nut to turn freely without allowing the carb end of the cable to push out through the nut.

Are you saying the sheathing and everything is pushing through the nut? I think you would be better off just getting a new cable.

That's right! I'll look into a new cable. I'm guessing the choke cable could be causing my trouble. The plugs look the right color but when I upshift, sometimes I get a single loud pop. It rarely pops on a hard decel. I did the stage three mod on the stock exhaust, and removed the carb so I could open the PMS a bit. I must have broke the cable when I removed the carb. That's typical of my projects. My wife says they shouldn't sell tools to me. Oh well!!!!

Has the design on the Choke cable changed on the 2007 R*? On my 2007 Midnight Silverado the housing on the cable floats in the nut that holds the end of the cable in the carb. There is a spring and a small plunger with an "O" ring that are held in the carb by the nut but the cable housing floats in the back side of the nut. It has to or you wouldn't be able to turn the nut to fasten it to the carb. If you trim the base of the choke knob it doesn't result in any space between the knob and the base. It just causes the cable housing to further out of the nut on the carb end of the cable.
