Jetting change after porting manifold? 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
I did some searching, but not sure if I really found what I was looking for..
I will be putting on my new exhaust tonight (LA Chopper CurveDD), and then in the next day or two doing the HC Pro-R kit. I have heard and read that the jetting that comes with the kit works great, and I am sure I can tweak it a little even, but my question is this:
If I port the manifold as well when it is all apart (grind down the corners) will it effect y jetting at all? Will I need more than just the setting that come with the kit?
TIA

Yes it will effect your jetting it will make you richer. I am not sure if the HC kit comes with more than one jet like the Barons does. Good luck with your HC I sold mine and got a BAK I like it much better and it is easy to jet for as well. Just my 2 cents. BTW when you port your manifold take the runners to the cylinders down to the metal.

Thanks Curt...I got everything done BUT the manifold, but I will eventually do it. I was into the carb for the first time, I was reading here things, I was reading the HC kit things, and I was using what they gave me........and now I am popping and shooting flames. haha
And they don't tell you where to put all the hoses on the Pro-R kit. I have a few questions for sure, but i will type this up more tomorrow. been in the garage all nite, and its time to chill for a bit

When I put the ported manifold on mine it didn't require jetting, but I am getting ready to go in and see what I can do. I have a K&N air kit, cobra long shots, 10.5 : 1 pistons and have never touched the carb and it seems to run ok, I am going to play with it this winter a tad from some of the settings I have found on here.

Curt, I am not trying to be a pain but if you port a manifold doesn't it make the engine leaner as it lets more air in? More air same amount of fuel would be leaner wouldn't it? Thanks.
Here's a good read on the subject:
MAnifold Porting FAQGram thanks for showing me this article. I am still unconvinced. An engine is just a fancy airpump. If you make it pump more air you can burn more fuel and make more power. Seems to me if you port a manifold and increase the airflow through the engine you will also need more fuel to burn. More air without more fuel means leaner mixture. I am NOT trying to argue the point, I am trying to understand it. It is making my head hurt.
I was unconvinced at first too. But after I purchased an exhaust analyzer I confirmed it. Every bike I installed one on was richer after the install. Some only needed minor adjustments. But if it was one of my manifolds they usually needed a full size jet smaller main.
