PMS/Jet for Backfire/Popping 3 Years, 9 Months ago
|
|
I'm still getting a lot of backfire/popping on hard decel with my Khrome Werks slip ons. Removed AIS - better but still quite a bit.
Was going to order adjustable PMS and thought it may be good idea to go up a size in pilot jet at same time. I've seen others post that even after adjust PMS out to max still have poppoing with the KW slip ons.
My thought was to take off carb, check position of PMS screw. If it's already out more than 2 turns - go ahead and replace pilot jet with larger size before installing adjustable PMS and putting everything back together.
Does this sound like a plan? And if so what size pilot screw is one up from stock?
Thanks,
Shacky

Adjust the PMS 1/4 of a turn at a time. You can go 3 turns (or 4 more 1/4 turns for you) out on the PMS with no issue. I ran mine at 3 1/2 for 17,000 miles. Try that first , as bumping up the pilot is a last resort. BB

Mine is at 3, it had been running a little lean before adjusting it now it seems to run great. I just got back from a 1300 mile trip with no problems, just a very dirty bike.

Just saw this on a Road * Mag article:
#5- The decel-enrichener system is a small device mounted to the side of the carb, containing a small diaphragm and spring. It adds an additional measure of fuel during the very high intake vacuum that exists during closed-throttle deceleration at road speeds. It’s sole function is to help reduce exhaust backfiring during deceleration and it is not common to all modern motorcycles.
Should this decel-enricher be area to work on rather than PMS?

Just checking to see if you did this already, but when you put the slip-ons on, did you use any high-temp silicone to seal them to the headers?
Even after removing my AIS, I was getting some WICKED backfires with my Samson slip-ons until I sealed them with high-temp silicone. I had some significant exhaust leaks at the joints due to a poor design. Anyhow, I rarely get anything now... a HUGE improvement. Just my 2¢.

I had Stealer put them on. But took them off and applied the silicone to make sure. So I don't think I have leak. Have read about most others having same experience with th Khrome Werks. I love them and will live with the popping if necessary.

"decel-enrichener system"???? Does anyone have any more info on this? I thought I had read through all the articles, have been into the carb, have I been missing something?

The Coasting Enricher. Next to the TPS on the left side of carb. Not sure how it works, but read about it yesterday. hah

Yeah. When I saw this I wondered if this unit could be adjusted/upgraded to increase effect. My * runs great as is. And I was reading the 1700 is already set up richer than 1600 - writer said too much so compared to ~ 65cc increase in displacement.
So richening up PMS to offset popping/backfire may mean running overly rich. When this is the thing that may need attention.
