1700 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Ok here is my problem getting ready to install a K&N filter and cover on my 1700 R* that has a stage 3 exhaust mod. with AIS removed, carb and manifold is stock . I was never able to get the PMS adjusted proberly (it was still backfiring on decel and WOT was showing lean) I know most people are running a 180 DJ main
but my thinking is that I need to increase to a 190 DJ when I tear into the carb. The needle is stock at present but will be installing the DJ and a new style Maxair PMS. Don't ask... Elevation is 800-1200 ft . Am I on the right track? Thanks

On my 1700 I run 175DJ jet with DJ needle on 4th slot. PMS out 2 1/4 turns. I have ported manifold and K/N air filter with poor mans BAK.
If all you are doing is adding a KN filter to the stock air box I'm not sure you need any mods to your carb at all but I'mm sure Doc will confirm this. The stock set up would have been fine for this.

In that case I would try the set up I have in above post but put needle washer on the 5th slot and do WOT. If it is good move washer to 4th. There is all kinds of direction here try a search as well.
