I have
never, ever been able to get better than 37 MPG, even with the bike leaned out just to the point where any leaner and it would have ran like crap (I speak from experience

). SO, I pretty much resolved myself to never being able to hit that Holy Grail of 40 MPG. Just deal with it and enjoy the ride, right?
Most recently, I was commuting 100 miles per day round trip, with 95% of it being at 80 MPH+ on the highway. I was ranging between 32 and 34 MPG.
So, one of the things I did while I was tinkering recently (besides pinching my wires in half

), is I enriched the
PMS from 2 to 2.75 because of some
decel fluttering.
Anyway, I've been reading everyone's posts here about MPG, and the
biggest MPG killer seemed to me to be the high speeds. Before I destroyed my wiring, I wanted to test the theory. So today I took a nice, leisurely ride from Santa Fe to Taos...didn't jump on it...never went above 70 MPH... and I'm here to tell you, what a difference a few MPH makes!
174.4 miles, refilled with 3.778 gallons...that's 46.241397564849126521969295923769 MPG!
Not only did I make it over 40 MPG, I made it WAY over!
There...just wanted to share...and gloat.
