I'm not all that concerned about MPG. My total fuel bill for the month of August, is twenty-three dollars and change. Holy crap! Every time I think of it, it makes me smile... Cheap on gas, fast as hell, nimble, and FUN!!! Hell, even if I only got twenty miles per gallon, I'd still be walking around with this silly grin on my face!

Before I started my ongoing journey into the Land of Perpetual Rejetting, I was getting 120 miles per TANK, including reserve. And nah, I'd be lying if I said I had the R* for mileage purposes. I'd say it's far more fun to watch the look of shock on those pubescent faces of the drivers of those little LED-covered, lowered Toyotas & Hondas when I beat their pants off pulling away from a stoplight.
It's just nice to know that all that incessant fiddling and tweaking paid off.
Guess that means I need to go find something else wrong to keep me occupied.

I only ride, 95% of the time, at 55-60mph. The most I have gotten out of it is 52 solo and about 46-48mpg 2 up.

Not surprised .... I'm sure you remember why the 55 mph nationwide speed limit was imposed.
The higher the speed the greater the drag, that's why you start to see decrease in mileage.

Doc hit the nail right on the head. When on group rides, I always get 50+ mpg when riding within the pack. The broken air created by multiple bikes offers even less resistance and my R* just sips the gas. My normal average is 44mpg.

When I first got my R* I was driving a '95 fullsized Chevy extended cab truck. I was spending $130 to $140 a week on gas. Working 7 days a week, now I'm putting about $30 to $35 a week. I'm not real sure what my wife, , is doing with the $100 or so I'm saving. I thought (maybe that's where I went wrong ) I could get some extra goodies on the *. Boy was I wrong.

riding around here on back roads of the wine country (no Interstate riding) I get a solid 45-50 all the time. Take it out and get it running up in the 75-80mph range and I drop back to 40-45mpg. Never been in the 30's but then again I didn't buy the Roadie to watch my mileage, it's just an added benefit.
I'll add here that riding style makes a difference too. Blasting off from every light and doing smoking stops at the last instant cuts the mileage a bunch. I learned a long time ago that the fast way around is the smooth way (F1 champ Jackie Stewart said that and he's right). It also happens to be one of the best things for mileage too......smooth!

I have and 07 and after reading this thread, I feel like the odd ball here. When I took my stock Roadie home and had to first refuel, the trip meter showed 195 miles BEFORE going into reserve. I now have Bub Jug Huggers and a Pro-R hypercharger setup. I STILL hit around 190 to 205 before going into reserve. I guess the boys at Texas Yamaha (Pasadena, Tx) know how to jet. Good thing too, I can wrench somethings, but know nothing about carbs. I very much agree about the speed factor, my gas milage goes south if I hit a constant 75+ MPH.
