check to be sure the accelerator pump is functioning properly, that could be causing your hesitation and backfire..Iv'e found on mine that it likes that little extra squirt as early as possible, the duration doesn't seem to be as touchy..

Recap? 4 Months ago
OK I have 42 mm mikuni hsr carb, no tps yet - I do have a dyna3k and a barons BAK. the fuel pump is still intact, jet is 167.5- original mikuni needle I believe set at 3rd notch still in.

Seems to start, not pretty! but idles and stays, when I blip the throtle blank nothing dies, when I ease into throtle I get back fire, pipes and carb A little flame to boot. please offer me some more wisdom, I will check pms screw and accelerator pump. to the garage I go.

Re:Recap? 4 Months ago
OK The pump is gone I am a little concerned about fuel flow but I am going to trust those who came before me.

So recap; I have 42hsr mikuni carb. original needle still in it-( barons looked to short, ) 175 jet, Barons BAK - Yamaha ported manifold - no tps yet (going to look for mod after i get through this) and a dyna 3000. Bubs shortys with vortex baffle ( sounds awsome - insanely loud )

will not start with out choke on full, sputers through carb a bit. (its late here so its hard to rev up with out bothering nabours) what nexxt ? I need to understand the accelerator pump where is this?

On the mikuni link I sent you, there is a blow up of the carb, the accelerator pump is shown, there are 2 or 3 different sized jets for it as well, what it does basicly, is give a little extra shot of gas when you crack the throttle, you can adjust when that shot comes and for how long it lasts..Sounds like your getting there tho, you should need the choke on full when the engine is cold..no choke when hot...
