I recently got my 3rd set of pipes for this bike, and put them on ( Cobra slash cut staggered, not sure what model. I also purchased a Baron's jet kit and
PMS screw. I just finished chaanging the jet and mixture screw and took a short test drive. I found that I still have a few problems to sort out.
Here is how the bike is currently set up:
Kuryakyn 9420 hyper charger
170
main jet
Baron's needle (clip on 4th notch, all original parts in order on needle)
2.5
mm float valve
Fuel pump eliminated
1/4" fuel line (no filter)
Barron's PMS thumbscrew
Cobra slash cut staggered duals ( one piece pipe w/ heat shields and baffles)
Here are the issues that I found in the order that they happened, with possible corrections:
Would not start with choke on, started and idled fine with choke off. - PMS out of adjustment
Engine would not accelorate from idle / wants to stall on take off and at low speed /
rpm - remove spacer from below needle clip
Engine cuts out and or sputters at sustained high RPM's - vent fuel cap, increase fuel line to 5/16"
I know that many of you have been through one or more of these conditions, and I would really appreciate your thoughts on correcting them. I have a few ideas, but I could be wrong.
On a positive note, this thing runs like a rocket going through the gears so I think I have the main right. I just need to clear up these other things and get on to the
WOT test.
