Jetting help... again. 4 Months ago
I have my carb apart right now. I have a 170 main jet, I put the 2.5 mm float assy in. Today coming home I really cranked it in third gear and the bike was acting like it was running out of gas.
I can't find the needle with the clips and washers. Where is that please?
I did find one needle on the side under a black boot and it has three grooves on it and a spring, but no clip.
Any help?

try it with the gas cap off...you probably need some additionl venting, if so then the tech articles have a section on venting the gas cap... also when you hit the rev limiter, it will act like that..

I have the speed star module in, so I don't think I was up against the limiter, but you never know. Just doesn't seem to be making the power that it did with the fuel pump. I really think it wasn't getting the gas. I'll look at that in the tech articles and see what I come up with. That's a good idea.
Thanks

If you hit 5500, you would know it...try it with the cap off, assuming you don't have a full tank, and see if that helps, If it does, then you know which way to go...
Doc can give you an alternative to venting the cap, but be forwarned, it's not for the feint of heart...

I guess venting the cap can't hurt anything, I plan on going down and doing it now anyway. Then I will see if I can adjust my PMS in a little better and see how that all works.
This is a bear getting it right.
I still can't find the needle everyone is talking about with the clips and washers, where is that thing?

And while we are here, would a PMS screw out of adjustment do that?

The needle is accessed from the top of the carb. Not the bottom where the float is. You will need to take the gas tank off to get to it unless you have the carb off of the bike. It's under the vacuum slide cover. Good luck.

Ok, does that thing unscrew out the bellows? Does it pull out? I don't want to damage it so I figured I would ask first.

Check the tech article Rejet your carb. It explains what to watch for. And how to remove the needle without hopefully breaking anything. http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/60/96/
