Idle speed constantly increases 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Hi All . My 1700 with , Poormans air , Cobra pipes , Dynajet Needle , 190 main jet , stock pilot jet , PMS at 1.25 turns out . RUNS Great thru all rpm and Idles great .....BUT it always increrases idle speed dramaticly as the Bike warms up over an extended period of time ...10 to 15 minutes . Seems to do this wherever I set that PMS screw and Idles just fine anywhee I set that PMS screw ..from .5 turn to 3 turns . Any ideas . Oh yeah Plugs show fouled sligtly around outside but White and clean on electrode and tip .Cant get them to look Tan coloured no matter what I do ! Have not ventured up to 195 or above main jet yet .

Set your idle on a hot bike. If you set it when it's cold you will have problems.

I had the same problem until I set the idle to around 900 when the bike was all warmed up.

As has been said ... the idle is set with the bike hot, consequently, it will be too low when cold.

It's difficult to read plugs, especially with the additives they add ... and change over the course of the season. The colour of the plugs will, to some extent, depend on the additives. I don't try and fine tune my bike based on the plugs, but how it performs. For example, your plugs would indicate lean on high end and rich on low end but your jetting is counter to that.

Adjustments need to be made with the engine at normal operating temperature. Set the idle then set the PMS. If the PMS adjustment affected the idle then re-adjust. With everything set right you may have to choke it for start, and go a couple of miles at half choke, then choke off and drive on.

I think you put some kind of Idle vodoo on me! I went out and played with the carb a little and the more I rode it the higher my idle RPM went, seemed like every stop light I was tweaking it down a tad, I think I have it now.
I did move my needle to the second clip with one washer and turned my PMS screw out 1.5 turns. I don't know if that changed everything including the idle or not.
Seems to be running ok now..
