1700 float level... 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Anybody know the measurments of the float from the mating surface of the carb for the 1700? At one time there was a pic of how the float should look resting fully on the needle. For a rough start, you could see where the ridge of the float should be, compared to a cast tower on the carb. Am I clear??? I went thru the carb tech stuff and cant find that pic, or Doc...do you have a measurment? I have the carb off now, outside, and it's gonna get dark soon. Any help would be appriciated.

You can't measure it that way.

There is some slack in the float mechanism .... in other words, after the valve makes contact with the seat the float will compress even more. Measuring the distance when the carb is upside down and the float full 'seated' is not the same as when the valve is seated.

When the valve is seated the distance is 14.5 mm
When the float is fully depressed it's 7 mm

... from the face of the carb to the bottom of the float.

I think I've explained is better in another post ???

Doc

.... wrong ...

Oh yes .... these values are equivalent to the 1600 value of -3.5 mm measured according to the OEM tube method.

You may be able to use ratios to determine what it would be for the 1700.

Just in case a high float level could contribute to SVS I set mine at 1600 specs. Works fine
