Jetting suggestions? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I had a set of Roadburner Pro pipes and BAK put on a few weeks ago. The fuel/air mix has not been right since the install. The dealer said they jetted according to the Baron's instructions. Today I noticed that the outside (chromed) part of one of the pipes is yellowing right where it connects to the engine. I've been trying to tune the mixture with the PMS and it seems to run better with fewer turns, but I can't go much lower and still have the bike idle well. Sometime soon, I'm going to pull the carb and check the jetting myself. Any suggestions for what settings or which way to adjust (yellowing pipes means too rich right?) I'm in the NorthEast so I ride in a fairly wide range of temps. Hometown elevation is 175ft. Other than the new pipes and BAK, everything else is stock.

I'm a bit hesitant about pulling apart the carb, but a few folks here have said it's easy. Which tech article would be the best for a complete beginner. The closest I've come to working on an engine is on my riding mower pulling apart the carb and checking valve clearances.

Are the pipes under the heat shields yellow?...or the chrome heat shields themselves?

Guess I need to read better...First I'd check and make sure your header pipes are tight at the head. The chrome shouldnt be yellowing there. Yellow on the chrome usually means exhaust leak, at the flange or where the muffler and header pipe connect.

Sounds like you are lean from your description. You need to roll up your sleeves and get to work! These carbs are pretty simple. Just go by the tech articles and ask for help here if you need it.
Good Luck!

What year bike? You have any idea what jets are in it now? Did the dealer tell you?

Sorry, 2007 model. Dealer said they put the second largest jet in from the Baron's kit.

And it's definitely the chrome yellowing. There were also a couple small scratches on the chrome about 1/2 way back. I'm noticing a little discoloring around them too.

Yellowing pipes says 'lean'
Runs better when turning PMS in says 'lean'
But they put the 2nd largest jet in? Odd.
Possibly a vacuum leak.

Yep, need to get it apart and see what jets are in it to begin with and how the needle is set up. Where the clip is on the needle, washers and how many.
Check for a vacuum leak by spritzing a little spray carb cleaner around any joints. Use the little tube that comes with the can and be careful not to let it spray any into the carb itself. If you spray it around a joint and the rpm's increase then it's sucking air at that point.

I put the speedstar jet kit in mine, and the directions said to tighten the PMS the back it out three turns (i know it's a different kit, but you might give it a try)

I know what you meant retodd......but to clarify , never tighten the PMS screw. Lightly seat it , then back it out 3 turns. For those who have never done it , if they tighten it , it will damage the carb and make adjustments near impossible. Thanks, BB
