Hey B4 you have not rode your bike in four months? If you let it sit that long then I am willing to beleive that your milage is ok, and most of your gas is evaporating threw the vent tube from sitting so long. According to your posts you have not ridden in four months.

Yeh if your only riding every few months then most of that gas is evaporating. Go fill her up and ride all day then see your milage.

UPDATE ON MY continued concerns on the whole MPG issue!?!

BECAUSE, if what I am reading here on this forum is true and accurate, I am still in serious trouble with my 2007 Roadstar Silverado 1700.

My bike NOW HAS 1500 miles on it and I am still not getting any great MPG (like 23-26MPG).

again, It is all stock except for the Cobra exhaust and they said they re-jetted it at the Yamaha dealership where I purchased the bike and the Cobra exhaust.

If you have any insights, I am all ears.

Please help me if you can.

OK guys - i now have approximately 1500 miles on my RS 1700, it has been serviced at 800 miles and i am still not getting all that good gas mileage on this ride.

anyone have the 1700 RS, that can help me with your comparison MPG?

B4, I have the same bike, 07 Road* Silverado. I've been getting 40+ since new. I did take it easy up to the 600 mile check, and I typically drive like a sane person. Now that it's getting cold out, my mileage is actually going up.

Someone 4 months ago gave good advice about how to control your MPG.
Speed from light to light is BIG
Throttling at stops isn't good on the bike either, some bikes have to just becasue they are not tuned right. If you have to, then take it back to the dealership, or maybe to another dealership to verify that your dealer isn't a "Bad" mechanic, hopefully that's not the case, but there are a few.
Weight on the bike makes a differance Duh, I weigh in at 235 and my girl who rides with me a lot, is just under (she'll kill me if she knew I wrote this) 195.

So check your driving habits, check your jetting, don't over load the bike and then fill it up and drive it normally. If it's still way off, consult the dealer.

There's your problem right there. There was no need to rejet for pipes and they jetted you rich. I'd venture to guess if you're that rich your next problem will be sticking valves.

no, i ride nearly every day. i just came back with an update and was letting everyone know that i am still not getting any good mileage on it.

i am going to call the dealership now and will let you know what I find out.

I've got many mods... Santee pipes, K&N in a modified stock box, K&N jet kit by Dyno... all works incredibly well, and I see mid 40's all the time, and I do mostly 35 to 45 in 3rd and 4th, with a little time at highway speeds, but here in SE Mass, it's largely stop and go, and I use lots of back roads. I suspect very rich jetting as well.

This winter, I'm switching in a 31 tooth front pulley, a Dyna ignition box, and for a more open jug look, Mr.C's universal K&N filter. I expect only more satisfying performance and looks.

i am not sure what the deal is guys.

i went to the dealer today and they said that you HAVE TO re-jet the carb when putting on the Cobra Exhaust, to avoid burning up the pistons and warping the valves.

i told them that i am only getting around 100-120 miles out of 4.1 gallons (which is from gas light coming on to gas light coming on). and they act like i ought to be happy with that performance.

can someone please give me some technical specifics on my dilemma???

I can't give you any technical info, but I have an '07 just like yours. My mileage has been solidly in the 40s since the first tank. On a steady cruise in the hills, it nudges 50, for commuting, it drops to the lower 40s. The only mod is the AIS removal. Right now, I have almost 2k miles on her. I would find another dealer or mechanic.

To repeat ....Jetting

You need to go back to stock jetting or redo the jetting you now have.

When you change the airflow properties in your carb, adjustments need to be made to compensate for the changes.

You changed your exhaust, but left your airbox stock. The exhaust will let more flow come out of the heads than the stock pipes will, but it can't do anything to let more air into the system. You need to change the stock airbox to do that. If either the exhaust is left stock, or the airbox is, you are limited to the original airflow they were both designed to accommodate. So the flow through the carburetor is essentially the same as it was before you made the change.

If you also rejetted, and either put in a new needle or increased the size of the main jet you are getting way too much fuel for that stock airflow. You need to find out what jetting changes the dealer made. If it was limited to pms adjustments then that won't be the problem.

If your dealer changed either the needle or the main for exhaust alone, you need to find a new dealer. Seriously. They should know better. If they don't know better its an ignorance problem, if they did know better they were trying to sell you something.

So double check and find out what changes were made to your carb. If they really did rejet, find a better dealer to check the system out for you. Or, tear into it and find out for yourself.
