Have you tried the settings on the articles I posted? Tons of guys have used that as a starting place and it has worked well. I think you are at some extremes there.

Baron's needle, clip on 6th groove no spacers

That may be your problem .... You should have (from the blunt end) a washer, clip, white spacer, silver washer .... that is the 'normal' setup.

Do one change at a time.

At this point I would recommend that you fix the needle and run the WOT test. You may find that your main is a bit rich ... I suspect a 167.5 would be better for your altitude.

Once the main is OK, move the clip to the 4th slot, test, then to the 3rd slot, test, etc. Once it runs bad, add another washer (you would now have 2 washers under the white spacer).

Thanks for pointing that out Doc, I assembled the needle backwards. I remember putting the white spacer and washer on top of the clip, I'll make changes in the morning and do a 30 mile test ride on the way to work.
Just to be sure I'm understanding correctly, does higher altitude require a smaller main jet for the same set up compared to low altitude? If so, I'll replace the 170 main with the 167.5 while I'm at it and give it a try.

Just had another thought. I am getting alot of popping on decel but no back fire, does that also suggest a lean mixture, and would the needle being set wrong be the cause?
