Sometimes hard to start 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
I have this issue that has crept up with my bike lately and I'm trying to determine what it could be before I start buying parts. I've noticed now that sometimes when I hit the button to start it, it cranks freely and fires. Other times, it cranks, stops for a second, then keeps cranking slowly, then fires. Motor temp is not a factor. It will do either one with the motor cold or hot. Battery is new.

I'm wondering if it's my starter, or the decompression solenoid going out. Seems like the decomp solenoid, but I don't know. Opinions?

I would make sure all cables are bolted tight (battery, starter, starter solenoid). What year is your scoot and how many miles on it BlkCherryBomb?

Sometimes the motor stops in a weird place in the compression stroke. You can try jerking the bike backwards in gear a tad next time it happens.

PapaTom - It's an 05 with 24k on it.

It hasn't been doing this for very long. That's why I thought maybe I had a part wearing out. Seems logical that if my decompression solenoid were going out, I would get this symptom.

Gotta check connections first. Then remove the decompression solenoid cover and watch for proper operation, make sure it moves and stays in place during entire start procedure while you're depressing the start button.
