Liquid? 1 Month ago
|
|
Need help, can't seem to figure this out. Have black dots from liquid coming out of the exaust on the swingarm. Setting:
Dyna 3000 34A 5500
Curve DD pipes
Poormans Bak
Dj needle set on 4th clip
stock pilot #35
DJ 175 main
PMS 3 turns out
Did WOT test, main seems sufficient. did the choke adjust it's closed. no leaks on the the intake or the exhaust. Done the pms ride change stop change etc, 3 out seems good. checked plugs they are fine. idle set around 700. any suggestions

Been raining/snowing in your area lately. Sounds like moisture w/carbon droplets. As it gets colder, it condensates as soon as it hits the cold air. It's why you see more coming out of the exhaust during the colder months.

Water is a natural by-product of combustion, and it will go somewhere either as vapor or liquid. If your pipes won't carry it beyond the rest of the bike, some of it could well land on it.

FYI...700 seems a little too low on idle. They recommend around 950 rpm I believe. With that low of idle, depending on your year of bike, you could run into a problem with your rear fender cracking from the idle wobble.

How long was your bike running when you noticed this? Did you run it long enough to get the exhaust hot and burn off any condensation that had developed there? 10 - 12 miles of riding will typically burn the water out. Less than that and it probably adds to the condensation. I would agree with the above post on the idle. I know everyone wants the low lope/thump sound but 700 is too low and will add to carbon build up problems.

Ditto what the others said about condensation collecting when the pipes are cold. As for the idle being too low they are probaly right on that too but I also like the sound of these mills at a lower than the recomended idle setting. Don't have a tach so I don't know what mine is set at but how many minutes of idleing do you do anyway? I think the rpms that you ride at is way more important. While under load you want the oil pump spinning enough to do it's job of protecting the bearings.

Thats why I got ride of my whitewalls. When the chilly months hit here in So. Cal. and I would fire up my Roady it would spit all that on the back tire.
Yupper like everyone else said it is the moisture mixed with the carbon from the pipes.
