Let's get real 4 Years, 5 Months ago
So, I've ordered a K&N for DarkStar, but here's a question about jet kits:

Has anyone figured out how not to pay $60 for a needle, three jets, and a drill bit? (I already have the drill!) Jeeze, that's a lot of money for these items. Anyone know how to get this stuff separately for a decent price?

Cheap, I know, but it matters right now!

Unfortunately, no one sells the needles for the stock carb without a whole jet kit to go with it. The jets can be gottn at most Harley shops (large head mikuni) if they carry the size you need.

The problem is getting the needle.

Midstar07 I'm with you brother, I bought the speedstar kit because it was the most bang for the $$$, at least it gave you pilot options. Like you said I've got a drillbit and I'll get the plug out, and I even went to Ace hardware and bought the 4 bowl screws. So yes you're paying $60.+ for a needle and a jet.

MidStar,

If you go to the Baron site and order the jet kit from them, you can get it at a discount by entering the promo code "holiday25" in the promo code box. Saves you $15.00 it ain't much, but in these times......

Here's the link to the kit. Baron Jet Kit

Geez. People will drop 60 bucks a piece of chrome with out blinking. And that does nothing but look good. The jet kit will give you a better kick in the pants and increase the grin factor a lot. Once you get it in and tweaked you'll think it was money well spent.

Musky.....not me on the chrome stuff.....yet. But I hear ya. I'm just in an uncertain financial situation and the $$ matters a bit more at the moment

Thanks guys.

You could take the stock needle, cut grooves in it and taper it

i know of at least one person who has done it.

Well. If you ordered the Barons jet kit you're getting a very good needle. Titanium. And very good machining. Good tolerances. I don't think it's that far out of line myself. Besides. They got ya by the short hairs.

I was going to make the same comment as Musky... we are talking about very precisely machined components that we can't readily reproduce in our own garage. The equipment they buy to produce those things cost a fortune!

I was lucky enough to pick up a K&N branded kit for $27 off of eBay a year and a half ago. I've not seen any as low as that for some time now. But you can still find them there for less than retail.

Muskys got a point, some of you may have dropped some huge coin on a diamond for your lady this x-mas and it's smaller then a main jet; or $3 plus for a gallon of gas but $.79 for a pint of water. It's all relative?!
