Baron jet kit has arrived! on with the questions 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Doc, Musky, Others , Before I get started rejetting I had a couple questions (duh).
Not that you need constant reminders of how my bike is now, but here goes:
AIS removed , Roadhouse 2/1 exhaust with baffle installed, stock jetting (another duh), Barons stock ported manifold, PMS at three turns out, stock airbox/paper filter.
Here is what I want: 100HP/125FPT
Really now: I want to run the barons jet kit and run my K&N filter with the mods already listed above.
The instuctions from Baron is not overly hard to understand, but they don't touch on things such as the ported manifold. It says on my model(1700) for aftermarket exhaust w/baffles to run their needle on the 5th groove from the top and a 172.5 main jet, with the pms turned 3 and a half turns out.
Does this sound like the right place to start taking in to account the manifold and K&N filter? I followed Dynojet to a tee before finding this forum, and man were they off (and that was before I installed the manifold and filter). I would love to get it right the first time with this jet kit as pulling that carb on and off is for the birds.Swing for the fences! Thanks,Bear.

Is the K&N filter a replacement for the stock filter or is it a full air box replacement.. I'd say if it's just a stock filter replacement I'd leave the stock set up... or maybe a 165 jet and mess with the PMS... if you're putting on a new air box or doing the poor mans BAK... then go with a 167.5 on the 4th slot .. you can also go with a 170 on the 3rd slot if you fail a WOT test. good luck getting the screws off the float bowl (go buy a hand impact driver - you hold it in your hand with a screw driver tip on it, turn it slightly to unscrew it and hit the back side with a hammer) ~Guido

OK. you're not gonna like this. Stock air box = No re-jet. 5th groove, 172.5 main, PMS 3turns = rich / 25 mpg / fouled plugs. My 2 cents anywho. I'll go now so you can call me names

WHAT!!!!WHAT!!!! your saying don't rejet? Didn't you just give me karma the other day? Have I done something to offend you? Really, your saying that rejetting is not necessary even with the manifold and stuff?!

stock airbox/paper filter

The k&n is a stock replacement on a drilled stock airbox (10 1/2 holes).

Which one ya got there BB

If it's stock then no jetting.
if it's the poor mans BAK then it's jet time.
DO NOT follow their jet settings. DO NOT follow any mfg's jet settings. You will only have to pull the carb one more time. And that's mostly to get the junk float bowl screws out and put the good Barons in. After this initial set up you won't have to pull the carb again. You can pull the tank to get at the needle and you can change jets with the carb on the bike. Get it right the "First time" That's a good one. I like that
Unless you have picked up some extra washers I would try the clip on the 4th with the stock spacer / washer set up, 170 main, PMS at 2 turns. And adjust from there. Yes, you will have to adjust.

Sorry Musky, I edited my previous post as you were posting. I drilled the holes some time ago, but I plugged them when I started to Encounter jetting woes a couple months ago. So in short, I've got both! OK, so going by the last part of your last post, that is the jetting I want to start with if using the poor mans BAK?

Well, you have guido's settings and my settings and they are different. And one or the other might be spot on the first try. Wait for some others to hop in and then make your choice. When I first did this I tried to get a definite answer and I found out there just isn't any. But not to worry. Unless you do something big time drastically wrong you aren't going to hurt the bike and after you do it this first time changing the settings is cake. It really is almost - See one, Do one, Teach one.
