AIS REMOVAL FOR 2004 ROAD STAR 3 Years, 11 Months ago
I recently installed Cobra 2 in. Drag Pipes and the "No Pork" AIS removal kit on my CA version 2004 Road Star 1700, but some of the routing of the vaccuum lines and such was not the same as the instructions that Paul Yotsuya had. It appears that while "No Pork" instructions cover 2004 (non-CA models), Pauls instructions were pre-2004 (CA models). Anyone completed the AIS Removal and can help me out? I just need to make sure I've got it right. I'm also running a Dyno-jet Jet kit with stock air cleaner for the time being.

When you are all done Bish, your vacuum nipple on your manifold should be capped of (not connected to anything).

Everything that was connected to the AIS lines should be gone, and the other lines incident to your air cleaner should be the same.

What line/s are you concerned about? Can you detail it for us?

Hey Gram, sorry for the delay, I had to go home after work and pull the tank to refresh my memory. Using Paul's diagram, Here goes:
Hose #10 on my bike, goes to the Oil Bag area to somewhere, but it "T"'s off to a filter or something behind the Fuel Pump before it goes to CARB "A".
Do I just remove all those lines and then what about the one going to the "Oil Bag Area"?
Do I just leave the Solenoid Valve Coupler hanging after removing the Solenoid Valve?
And in some of the articles there is reference to "the port in top of the rear cylinder" is that the port in between the spark plugs or the port in front of that?
I do have the Vaccuum port on the manifold plugged.

I think thats all...
Thanks,
Bish

My turn to apologize Bish, I haven't been here as much as usual the last few days.

Everything that Paul colored in on his pics can be removed. There is a pump just below the rectifier in the fron that needs to go too. Its a bitch to get the screws out of without stripping, so make sure you have a good stubby philips to go after them with.

The canister goes, the pump goes, the hoses go. The vacuum lines get removed, and you can even loose the selenoid if you want to. Its only there for the AIS, so has no useful function after you remove the lines.

The vacuum lines can all be removed, but need to be sure you are on top of the individual hoses in the area you were talking about.

I sent my phone number via private message here on the clinic, give me a call when you have a few moments and we can go through it while we are both looking at the pics.

Bish,
Where are you located? Maybe someone local would hook up with you to give you a hand and drink a beer over it.

I'm at the northern end of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, near San Clemente, California. Drop me a line if anyone around here can lend a hand.

Man, if the weather was a little bit nicer, would be a real nice ride down the coast from the SF Bay Area. Hmmmm ... what exactly was I planning to do this weekend? I bet you can hook up with someone from San Diego or LA .. hope someone pipes up.

On a side note, bish is not a real common tag and I knew a guy that used to post on the web site I owned a few years ago. You would not happen to be a flight sim geek too would you?

Nope, wasn't me, Bish is just short for Bishop, and the only flight simulation I do is riding the Midnight Star real fast!

Okay, latest update, I put the stock jet and needle back in, fuel mileage went back to 40 MPG, So... let me try this again, '04 R* 1700 with Cobra 2in Drag pipes and AIS removed, Stock intake, anyone have the CORRECT jet size and needle clip setting for the Dynojet kit? I've done the DJ175 and DJ170 w/ clip on 4th space from top, PMS at 3 out. Sucks fuel like a biker with a beer.

But AIS is totally off and looking good!

Any ideas?

AIS removal will not affect jet sizes or jetting really. The pipes alone may need to have the needle raised one notch from stock, but not much else. With an air kit, the entire game cahnges tho.
