Need Carb Setup Recommendations 5 Years, 4 Months ago
Roadies:

A while back, somebody on RSR Forum was soliciting carb setups in order to post a guide on recommended setups using different air kits, jet kits, exhaust, manifolds, etc. Did that ever happen? If so, I'd love to see it.

In the meantime, I need your advice on where to start with the carb setup for my Road*. Right now, it's completely stock; however, over the Winter I've been stockpiling performance goodies in my workshop for Spring installation.

Here are the particulars, come Springtime:

2006 Road* Midnight Silverado
New Jersey (sea level to 2000'
AIS removed
stock manifold
RH Classics 2-1 Pipes
MaxFlo Air Kit
MaxAir Jet Kit (Mikuni jets)
MaxMix PMS Screw

MaxAir recommends the following setup:

Pilot jet: #37.5
Main jet: #190
Needle jet: clip at 3rd slot, stock spacer
PMS: 7/8 - 1 1/2 turns

What do you guys think? Does this look okay for a starting point?

Thanks for any help.

Post edited by: 06MidnightStar, at: 2007/01/27 23:39

Sound rich to me. I'd leave the stock pilot and try a 167.5 or 170 main. The needle setup might be OK or might not. If I remember right the Maxmix is 1 turn of the Max = 2 turns of the stock screw so maybe start at 1 turn out. My 2 cents anywho. Wait until morning and you'll get more ideas.

And as long as you are going to have everything pulled off you should just go ahead and port the manifold.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/01/28 00:53

Second the too rich.

For the Roadhouse 2-1 I'd go with the 170 main but have the 167.5 on hand. Put the clip on the 5the groove from the top (blunt end) of the needle and try the WOT test to dial the main in.

Once you think you have the right main, then put the needle on 4 and try it out.

Leave the stock pilot in for now.

Maxmix PMS at about 1.5 - 2 (not critical) until main and needle are dialed in.

While you have the carb off, port the manifold as Muskie suggested.
