#1558 widetrack (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 38 Carb Heater 7 Years, 3 Months ago   My carb heater has fallen out and is gone. Is this something I need to order and get reinstalled? I am sure in a colder climat they might be a little fussier in real cold temps, but has not been a problem either in Arkansas, or Southern California. Riding temp range has been from a low of the high twenties, up to over 100 degrees. Vaporization of fuel and expansion of the air in the carburetor causes sudden cooling of the air/fuel mixture. The combination of a lower pressure, gasoline, and moisture in the air can so cool the metal parts of the intake that the moisture adheres to the carb as ice. The ambient air temperature in a carburetor can be reduced at its venturi by as much as 70F within a fraction of a second. For the same temp, the higher the humidity the more chance of carb icing. A slight accumulation of ice restricts the flow of air into the carburetor, causesing a drop in rpm and the engine runs rough because of an excessive rich mixture. All the parts for mine was $20 and change. It was the heater, ground blade and a washer. The bikes running way rich, but they wouldn't touch the carb jetting because they said my fuel pump relocate voided any warranty for the carb, valves, and "a bunch of other stuff." Can you believe they said that to me? I'm no mechanic, but I know enough about machines to know they are full of BS!! If anything, the fuel pump relocate might decrease pressure, due to the extended line. SO, I'm jetting myself!
