my new pipes 3 Years, 3 Months ago
i just got a set of samson shogun slasher pipes for my 08 roadstar 1700. its fuel injected and ive heard various inputs regarding installation. im skipping the baffles and using torque cones for it. do i need to get a power box to deal with remapping? some say the bike will remap itself. and do i need to install an air cleaner on it? i'll do what i can but i'd like to know if it is all necessary before i take it in to get all this work done. any thoughts would help. thanks!

If you are just changing the pipes you probably do not need to remap. If you want the most out of your bike, then you can change the air box and that will certainly require remapping. The Power Commander series seems to be popular and easy to use. Fuel Moto has a huge selection of maps they make up from dyno testing bikes with different exhaust systems. You have to purchase the PC from the of course to use it.

srhmusic, Welcome to the forum.

I have an 08 also. You will need to plug or remove the AIS or your exhaust will pop like crazy on the decel. I am being told that you can run any pipes you want on your 08, without a Power Commander. Also your 02 sensors can be unplugged (Should you want to use pipes that are pre 2008)with no side effects whatsoever...
Get a picture of it posted as soon as possible...

Great choice of pipes. I'm curious to know how the torque cones work out as I'm thinking about getting some for my '07. Btw,

I have an '08 and I stuck with pipes that mount the O2 sensors. They are one of the main ways the EFI computes correct mixture. I have Speedstar dragster pipes and a K&N BAK on mine and it required no remapping and no power commander. It runs great and there is a power difference. The advice on the AIS is good. I cut the hoses behind the rectifier and pugged them and taped them back together. If you decide to ditch the O2 sensors and go with a power commander, I would check with the dealer and make sure it doesn't screw up the warranty. I've had mine about 7 mo. now and it is a great ride. Good luck!
