Back fire or fart? If your bike is stock and it farts when you shut it off, that's fairly normal. How is your bike set up? Do you still have the AIS? Stock exhaust...etc..

Carbon build up, probably on an exhaust valve or exhaust port, possibly on or around the spark plug. That carbon glows like an ember in a fireplace while the cylinder is firing, but when you shut down the engine, a little raw gas is expelled, & that glowing ember causes it to ignite, thus the bang you're getting. If it's getting louder I'm guessing the carbon buildup is getting worse. I'd check my jetting & run some Seafoam through it. Just my guess, someone else may be able to add further info. A good hard ride or 2 won't hurt either.

Might be those things. You can also make sure you do not blip the throttle before you shut it off, and there are folks on here who have turned their idle down to around 900 and it has went away. For me, I never got rid of it. Turning the idle down and letting run for a few seconds before I shut if off helped, but i still got it once in awhile.

The idle might be set a little high from the dealer, and as stated already, that will make it worse. Get her warmed up good and lower your idle a little. Take her out and ride the piss out of her for 500-800 miles, change the fluids & filter, then see how things are.

If the bike only has 8 miles total on it, I wouldn't say carbon buildup is a problem...yet.
As far as breaking in the bike, DO NOT BABY IT! Break it in like yer gonna ride it, wind it up, do a little bit of everything. Consensus here seems to be that that will get a better seal on the rings. So ride it like ya stole it.

I would say most Roadies when the new buyer gets the bike from the dealer they set the idle too high as has been suggested because it does take some time to warm them up they are very cold blooded and it saves the sales guy having to explain why it takes so long to warm up I guess. When the motor is hot set it to between 850-950 rpms. The idle adjustment knob is just under the airbox just out from the base of the 2 jugs. You have to play with the knob to get it to adjust. It is a knob to cable to adjustment screw setup. Also do not lugg the motor you will have carbon problems if you do.... she likes to run. Also give serious consideration to ripping the A.I.S. off for your first project if you intend on doing mods and working on her yourself it really cleans up the bike as well as getting rid of some of the popping on decel..Coug

New bike.. I would certainly warm it up and check the idle then. Carbon would be unlikey at 8 miles. Make sure you dont Blip the throttle when you pull it into the gargage. That puts extra unspent fuel in the cylinders. Let it idle for a few seconds with your hands off the gas before you put it away.
