Cold starting, takes a while to warm up without mising, and black smoke...I think the guy that drilled it out at the local shop set the idle tooooo low.

I'm at 5,500 miles or so now.

Musky, does the BAK include the chrome cleaner cover? The first piece of chrome I put on the bike wa the RoadStar V102 air cleaner cover. Hate to lose it for what it cost...

So, it sounds like the consensus is, tweak the PMS and leave the jet kit go, unless I want to do additional upgrades?...

By the way, one other thing I noticed right off after I changed my pipes is what seems like a change in when to shift. Before, I could shift into 5th @ 50 mph or so. Now, 5th sounds/feels better at around 60. My imagination?

The BAK has a few choices in faceplates. The V102 is one of them. If you're using full choke to start it you want to push it back in at least 1/2 way as soon as you can. you might not even have to touch the PMS. run a couple of tanks through it and see how it is.

With the louder pipes your just getting to hear the motor now and what makes it happy I never shift in to 5th below 60 mph.

So, I could hear/feel the engine lugging at a 50 mph shift more...makes sense.

Since I'm probably due for anew air filter, what's a good replacement from stock? Wouldn't a more free-flowing filter alone also improve engine performance somewhat?

I have a K&N that fits in the stock airbox. I got it right before I went to the BAK so it's got maybe 300 miles on it. If you want it for the cost of shipping PM me your address and I'll send it out. You still won't need to jet with the K&N but you stand a better chance of having to tweak the PMS.

Here's my average shift speeds. And like I said. Never in 5th until 60 mph. These motors hate to be babied These speeds are nowhere near running it all the way out.

Shift into:
2nd - 27
3rd - 42
4th - 53

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/02/15 08:58

I'm trying to figure out your setup

You bought the bike new and .....

- aftermarket pipes
- stock carb inards
- Yamaha billet air cleaner cover

What does "drilling out the airscrew mean"?

Yep. We call 'em airscrews for some reason...

Hey Musky, thanks for the offer for the air filter! Do you want me to post my address on here?
