adding hypercharger, have questions. 5 Years, 3 Months ago
I have a 2001 Midnight RS 1600. It has V&H Long Shots. It had a K & N air filter on it. I just put a hypercharger on it. I did what the paper said as far as jetting goes for a 1600. I don't know if it was jetted when they put the K&N filter on it. So, I really don't know if I've got it right or not. When I get down on it, it cuts out real bad. If I leave it in neutral, and twist the throttle, it bogs and cuts up. The needle that is in the bike, the clip was in the third groove from the top. I tried adjusting the PMS and got it close as I can. It still runs ragged. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the setting of the needle, but the hypercharger instructions didn't say to move the clip, just to put a shim to raise the needle up. That's what I did.

Anyone know what else to do??

Thanks for you help The Kuryakyn paper said with the 1600 Road Star you put Main Jet 205 one 0.20 shim to raise the needle and Pilot Air Bleed 1.5. I hope this helps.
Blessings

do not listen to Kuryakyn...165-170 main with the kuryakyn needle clip in 2-3 position, stock pilot, 1.3 air bleed and 2-3 on the PMS. Right now you are running a 205 Mikuni main, Even if you are using the stock needle (which the 205 was designed for) it is a huge jet and you are drowning your 01. I just removed my Hypercharger and had the same issue at the start.

Post edited by: JJsNet, at: 2007/02/16 19:45

Just pulled a Hypercharger off mine to put on a BAK, mine had the stock jet for an 05 R* 172.5 and the clip was on the 2nd slot on the needle not sure what the PMS was set to. Hope this helps but your stock jet for the 1600 isn't the same as the 1700.

Stock main for he 1700's - 182.5. 1600's - 165. I never messed with a Hyper charger but those directions ( Like most mfgs directions) sound way too rich.

Thanks again for all your help. I am sure the bike is running way to rich.Ok tell me what you think. here are the jets I took out of the bike Main Jet .175 Pilot Air bleed 2.0.
Do you think I should put them back and try that or leave the .175 main jet and put the 1.3 Pilot Jet in?

remove hypercharger!
I put one on ( which is for sale) for about 3 days. It did not add nearly any giddyup, but it did add a lot of discomfort as it sticks out so far your right leg sits funny. I called Kury to see if there was a way to bring it in..nope...and they suggested I'm stuck since it was installed..So, i'll take the loss. Looking at either a maxair or BAK....
