Hey Roadie

They sound good. Not hard on the ears at all. That's the good thing about the longer pipes. They put the sound behind you.

Yeah. Ain't it great

Yup. Of course part of the low price is due to the non removeable baffles. Not an issue for me but something to be aware of.

Roadie FF,

I also have the Cobra Speedster Longs. A few things I have noticed. If you ride them easy, they sound fine - full but not obnoxious. If you get on the throtte, they really put out a nice sound.

I really like the overall sound, I wish they were just a bit "deeper"

I added the slash cut extentsion tips. It is interesting to hear the results of which way the openings of the slash cut is facing, and in contrast with the straight pipe.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. My mate is getting some soon for his Kawasaki Vulcan I will see how his sounds and make the D. Hey Musky, silly me, I still have the AIS on my bike as I mistook the diagrams showing it on tech tips as I am not used to pollution stuff on my bikes. To much shift work I think!!I will dismantle it ASAP. Musky to answer your question I only have after market pipes and the carb jetted to suit, otherwise stock as far as I know. My dyna 3000 is in the mail as we speak.

Hey Spiro

I think maybe you should slow down a little. There are things that need to be done and things that don't. If all you did was pipes without touching the airbox then the jetting didn't need to be touched. And I don't think you will be that impressed with the Dyna on a basically stock bike. I know it's fun to tinker and do mods but there is a process to it. Some changes done out of step can make things worse. Some can be little more than spent money without any real noticeable results. You should begin by deciding what you want to get from your bike. Better off the line. Better top end. Better mileage. Then after you know what you are after you can begin to get the parts you need. My 2 ents anywho.

Re:Cobra pipes 5 Years, 3 Months ago
I installed the Cobra Speedster Slash Downs about 5 months ago and have ridden the scoot on many trips long and short. I am very pleased with the Cobras. Quality is good, not great, but good. Check the flange at the head for a weld seam as I have heard of many that this needs to be ground flat. Mine did. Use new gaskets, I tried reusing mine and it leaked and backfired very loudly.

The Cobras are loud, and compared to stock your first impression will be wow this may be too much. I can tell you when you need to be quiet the Cobras will go softly, but when you get on it they will bark and announce your presence. On long cruises they are very pleasant not too loud, I wear a shorty helmet and have no need for ear plugs. Most of my friends with HK and V&H wear ear plugs as a matter of course.

No jetting when you put on just the pipes. I did open my PMS from a Stock 1 3/4 turns to about 2 1/2 turns and it ran great. I am at sea level. When I added the BAK I rejetted to a 170 main, 4th groove, and 3 tuns on the PMS. I have opened the PMS anothe 1/4 turn as the weather has cooled. It runs great, gets good mileage and the sound is all I wanted.

Good luck

Thanks Musky,
As I bought my bike of a Lady who only owned it 6 months and had even less knowledge about Roadstars than me I am not sure what I had. I tried the previous owner but he couldn't tell me much either as he now owns a HD and didn't want to know me. I can see it has been jetted and after market pipes. All I want out of it is a good sound, reliability, maybe new paint or airbrushing and to rev a little harder. Musky I couldn't get through on the site you gave me with the Yamaha manuals, not sure if it is my computer or the site address at this time. I appreciate your help and I will post a pic of my,sorry, Black/Purple (not white) baby soon.

For some reason it worked today Musky, I could get through to the Paul Milner site. I have been having a few freezing problems on my drives at the moment. I have saved it to my file and will make a hardcopy once I get to work at my second job. Cheers, mate. Lots of reading ahead for this little black duck.
