Re jetted (runsmuch better)still needs help 3 Years, 2 Months ago
Just got done with the new dynojet kit and the bike is a whole lot better. It still will sputter if I hold the throttle open in 1st and 2nd. Im wondering if I should adjust the pms screw or if its just the rev limiter. If I need to adjust the pms screw should I go in or out ? I installed the 175 main(biggest one in the kit ) and put the clip on the 4th groove.

It is very easy to hit the rev limiter in first and second. Try in third, you should be able to hit 84-85 mph. If it doesn't sputter until then you are good to go. 175 is on the large size. Most run 170 with needle on third groove. You may be running rich; check your milage.

By sputtering do you mean the bike surges when cruising?

You using a DJ jet kit so 175 is not too big, if anything it's may be to small and that's why it's surging.

What are you other carb settings?

Ill ride it again and see how it does in third. I didnt mess with anything else on the carb ( this is the first time Ive ever worked on one). Ive got V&H longshots with baffles and Mr C`s K&N filter upgrade. It doesnt surge , great acceleration , sputters at higher rpm

Might be hitting the limiter. Might be too small on the main. Float level might be too low. Couple things to think about anyway. I wouldn't mess with the PMS yet if your problem is at full throttle.
