Know you have been going over this whole "cough" issue for quite a while and am hoping that the manifold lead is the culprit.. Keep me posted..... Saw ya did some riding lately on the other forum.. Been helping kids paint the rooms in their new house for last two weekends... Have only been on Nugget twice in two weeks and only to ride to work... Thinking about pickling and putting away for the season... "it" is getting cooler these days.... At least you can now follow the 'standard' procedure and hopefully the dialing in works for you. You may have pinced the O-ring when installing the manifold. I know I had a hell of a time making sure everyting was in place. It's a tight fit. I like these message boards. Don't know if I cured the cough problem but a leaky manifold doesn't help in making adjustments. "Pickling" My registraion is up the end of the month and there is snow on the mountain and plenty of frost here. That was my last big ride for the season. There was no room for Michelle on that ride, it was speedy. I also hope this air leak has been the problem all along, been real frustrating. I used WD-40 to install and it went in pritty easy so pinching may not be the problem, just a good seal, I have one of the first "hard fitting" manifolds A manifold leak was easy to find in cold weather with all the backfire. Once on, mine fit like a glove, no leaks at all. I did make sure to evenly tighten all the bolts. Too much advance or retarting ignition timing will cause backfiring thru the carb or backfiring out the tailpipe. Can the electronic ignition timing be changed? I believe the factory has set the timing to satisfy the smog demons by leaning the engine and advancing the timing so much that rejeting and adding free flow exhaust has caused some bikes the pop thru the air cleaner occasionally.   Logged     The administrator has disabled public write access. #1775 Gram (Admin) Been there, wrecked that.
