Low speed miss/buck 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I have an 07 with a low speed miss/buck while maintaining speed at 1st and/or 2nd gear. I was thinking of changing to hotter plugs (existing have 6,000 miles) then adjusting the pms if needed. I have 3" hardkromes, K&M filter charger, AIS kit, and recently had it in the shop to check out the jetting and eliminate a decel backfire caused by a lean condition (the bike was running better with a slight pull of the choke). The bike now has great decel but the low speed miss needs to be corrected. Would the pms be a good start? My thoughts would be a slight turn in / right.

Did it just start doing this? You might just be going too slow. They do buck if you lug them.

It misses when slowly riding at the top of 1st or 2nd gear. Not when under load or lugging. This has occured after I spent some money to install exhaust baffles, air filter and jetting to eliminate decel backfire and psst, psst, psst... The mechanic says the jetting is right on with my set up and the decel is clean, which I like.

If you took it in to fix the "backfire and psst, psst, psst" and it came back with the low speed missing then they did not jet it correctly.

You can take it back or do it yourself ..... I'm unsure what you want to do.

You could try turning the PMS out 1/4 turn at a time but without knowing how you have it set up I can't say whether it will be set up optimally.

So it started after they fixed the decel? You need to tell us what you have in there for jetting. Needle set up, main, pilot, PMS turns out. It's an open K&N filter and not the one that goes in the stock air box? Only in 1st and 2nd? Float level good?

Not sure on the jetting details since the bike was previously jetted and the mechanic was unable to identify numbers on the jet kit. They checked the "opening size" with a drill bit and determined it to be at 45? There was also a vacuum plug missing on the AIS which they plugged.

I would recommend getting a Barons jet kit and starting from scratch. You'll always be guessing if you don't know for sure. And I wouldn't go back to that mechanic either. They can't do things right if they don't know what thy are dealing with. They'll charge you for guessing. My opinion anywho.

Doesn't a higher engine speed miss mean electrical?

YEARS ago I heard and have believed that a slow speed miss was most likely a fuel delivery problem and high speed miss was most likely an electrical problem...
