I never check the mileage unless I'm traveling at least 200 miles, but I always average 43 to 47 mpg. Riding habits, hills and wind are the only things that will knock it down. Oh yeah, I'm always one up, but everyone tells me it's a HEAVY one up!

Had my 99 R* Silverado for 3 weeks now and almost 1,000 miles. All stock except for Stage 1 exhaust mod. Been averaging 45mpg. My Honda Ascot 500 got 60mpg, 1 cyl, less than 1/3rd the displacement. The R*'s not so bad at 45mpg. It's been my daily driver now with gas hitting $3 a gal. My Jeep Wrangler 4 popper is parked now until winter as it only gets 13-15 mpg. I am interested in the Choke Trim Mod mentioned in this thread. What's this????

Just bought a 2006 roadstar silverado...problem I'm having is it "dogs out" after about a mile on the road when it's cold...does that for about a half a mile then it runs fine. I pulled the plugs and the rear plugs were black from not firing. Has anyone else experienced this problem?..other than that I love this thing!

Yep! same deal..was running to lean, turned the pms out to 3.5 and it runs super...but lowered the mileage..

The "doggin out" does seem to be better....at least it doesn't happen every time. Depends on the route I take when I leave the house..If I go straight up the road...then it will do it (interesting others have experienced this) approximately 1.5 miles away. If I go another route (one which requires me to slow down and turn/accelerate/stop/ accelerate again...then it runs fine?? I'm also wondering on the "bummer mileage".... I'm still getting between 32-36. Maybe this is normal for a 1700 with the huge windshield that's on it? Are there significant differences between the model years/size of engine/carb vs injected etc?

One other thing....can anyone tell me what that black knob which sits directly below the carb is/does?

Thanks guys

Adjust the Idle. And yes , a big ole windshield will lower MPG , esp. while round town riding. BB

I got the big old windshield and depending on how I ride, I get anywhere from around 39 (really getting on it) to 50 (taking it nice and easy)

Back to square one with this thing after redoing/replacing what the "so-called" expert tech.. at the dealer did. Running OK now with the 175 jet back in place(PMS turned out 3 turns).. (the dealer tech had installed a 180 to cure the "rich" condition?...go figure ), still with stock air box/stock pipes, and medium 21" windshield. Bike is now running OK again....however the mpg is still at around 32. I appreciate all the feedback concerning mpg I've already received...it has helped immensely, however, if you could include the following info when responding with mpg data it would help even more.

- year/displacement/stock air box?/stock exhaust?/tall, med, short, or no windshield?/any jetting changes from stock.

Thanks guys
