Really strange. I check milage on every tank, always got 39-42 mpg. Bike is ALL stock, got 11xxx miles on it. Changed the oil and went to Mobil 1 20w-50 v-twin and milage dropped to 36 in the last two tanks. Riding style has not changed and still riding to work and back. What is going on???

My 99 consistantly gets 45mpg around town. Been checking it every tank since I purchased it 2 months ago with 11,000 miles. I have almost 16,000 on it so far.

I put Mobil 1 in my Buick Park Ave and now it is consuming a lot of oil.

When I used dino oil in it, it would go almost to an oil change before I needed to add oil.

I will be switching back soon.

Go Figure...

Rayjay, where do you figure the oil is going? Out the tailpipe?

Strange ... I'd give a bit longer to get a more accurate reading.

Changing the oil from Yammi ? to Mobil should not give you that much of a difference in mileage.

The thicker the oil you use, the harder the engine has to work to pump it around, hence: lower fuel mileage. That's one reason many car manufacturers (including Hyundai, Honda, Mazda & Ford) are recommending 5W-20 engine oils; better advertised fuel mileage.

It may just be the summer blend of additives in your gas. Winter blends tend to deliver better mpg.
