My experience with a set of 2 3/4 HK big straights is the baffles fit so loosely that they will fall out once the securing bolts are removed. They are a little tricky to get back in as far as lining up the front end of the baffle to the header, but a broom handle works quite nicely..

Just to stir the pot why run without baffles? You are giving up torque and annoying almost everyone around you. I like a little noise, (Cobra Speedsters with baffles)but hate when I get stuck riding in a group with someone without baffles. My damaged hearing has suffered enough and straight pipes are just too much of a good thing.
As for jetting do a WOT test and see if you detect a lean condition. If that is good then you are at least not lean. The best way to start would be to find out what jets are in your carb, where the needle is set and where your PMS is set so you will have a base line. Let us know all the mods to the scoot like air intake, pipes, jetting, manifold etc. makes it easier to suggest options. If she is running good and mileage is OK then you probably are OK with the noise maker on full!!!

As I have so eloquently heard it put "It is hard to run well with a sock in your mouth and a cork shoved up yer arse". Thus many choose to open up the airbox and the exhaust systems to aid in the thru put of air.
But be careful if you choose not to re-jet... If you are running lean you can cook the pistons out of an engine.... I found out the very hard and expensive way on a racing snowmobile...
My sled was running real good until I cooked one but good.. now I am a little leary...

Agree engines are essentially air pumps and the more air in the more power. The issue is one of tuning the input air with the demands for the engine and the available fuel delivery system and then getting the burnt gasses out of the way. Too much air in and not enough exhaust and you get restrictions. Some back pressure is optimum for most applications, but again it depends on what the engine is being asked to do. An engine that runs are realatively low RPM will benefit from back pressure for additional torque. Engines that are running at max all the time like racing engines will benefit from the most open exhaust possible. Generally for Roadies IMHO some back pressure is ideal, so less restrictive exhaust, but not straight through.
