Something to think about is to ask them for your old pipes too otherwise you won't have any stock ones. My dealer never gave me back any of my old parts and I'll bet they sold them on e-bay. Hey CURT,
What kind of one-armed bandits stole your stock pipes from you?
If you bought the bike new from a dealer, then they LEGALLY HAVE to sell the bike WITH EPA REGULATED 80db exhaust. (that means stock pipes INCLUDED in the deal!) THEN, after the sale they install the new pipes for you, and return to you ALL stock hardware removed to install aftermarket stuff.
Dealer's cost on stock 1700 RS pipes is over $1050.00!
Sellers of stock exhausts on eBay don't realize the actual replacement cost of stock exhaust if you reaaly need to replace it for some reason. (ie: mandated by a noise-control Cop?)
What the stealer did was illegal! Tell them to return your stock pipes and all other parts to you!
..Now I'll bet you're reaaly fuming, huh?

Post edited by: StarMyram, at: 2007/03/29 21:58

I just went through the same process with my 06 Roadstar. I bought a Clymer repair manual that listed the stock jet settings and suprisingly enough the main jet was already the recommended 182.5, the needle is stock at 2 1/2 clicks. The only real change was the pilot jet which is 35 stock, and the recommended was 37.5. I did not change this jet just to see what happened and I found that on my bike, the stock jet settings were actually better than the pilot recommendation. It seems that from 2004 models on, the stock jet are pretty close to most recommended settings for pipe and BAK changes. The local shop wanted 5 hours and $300.00 plus for the job. Turns out it took me 4 hours and very little expertise to do the job myself.

Re:To Jet or not 1 Year, 9 Months ago
Hey there everyone. I am also new to the Roadstar Forum. I just bought the 07 Midnight Silverado and am wanting to change out the pipes. I am looking at the Cobra Speedster Slashdowns and am wondering the same thing as some others in here. Do I need to rejet, can I install myself, if you are changing the pipes do you need to do the air kit as well. Thanks for anyone's input.

Don't need to change the air box at the same time as the pipes.

You don't need to re-jet for pipes but you do if you put on another air box.

For new pipes you may have to adjust the PMS and disable the AIS.

EDIT ... just checking to see if you're online Musky.

Post edited by: DocShadow, at: 2007/04/09 19:27

Welcome to the clinic Rusty

You might want to disable the AIS and leave the PMS working.

Disable the PMS? Don't you mean the AIS?

Thanks for all of your help guys! Is there a need or a great advantage to changing the air box at the same time as the pipes, or is it not a necessary thing to do?
