Well, maybe your in bed, thats cool. I'll list the details.
Had her dyno'd, pleased with the results, Mostly. She does run lean at lower rpms (dips into 16 around 1600-1700,drops quickly to 14 at 1800,continues to drop steadily till it crosses 13(optimum)at 2450rpms, them is rich 12-12.5 till 4700 rpms)
I still suffer from the 1 mile spit,stall,hiccup,backfire,etc.etc.etc. after inital warm-up for about a mile then it's gone. Tried pulling the choke for the last two days, and it appears to help, leading me to believe it is running very lean on a cold motor.Sound reasonable?(All this while riding it "normal&quot
I'm running stock jetting as mentioned,so the needle is non-adjustable, but, could I not shim the bottom of the needle to raise it slightly to richen the bottom-end?
I have purchased a mukuni 180 to lower the main 1 size to reduce the rich top-end slightly.
The guys at my Honda shop (where the dyno is located) also suggested a softer spring in the slide for quicker response or perhaps riching the accelerator pump for a bigger shot of fuel off the bottom to compensate for the leanness.
I just want the bucking bronco to go away!!
Ofcourse all my R* buddys are allowed an opinion, so don't hold back (like thats ever stopped you).BB

If you want to go richer on the bottom end try turning the PMS out. Having to use the choke on a cold motor is good. That means you're not too rich.

Thanks Musky, I agree, and do have to use my choke Otherwise it wont start. My pms is at 3 turns out now, More you say? How much more till it's not effective? Wish I could post this dyno run so it could be viewed.

Here's another thing, around town, it sorta acts like it wants to stall at stop light/signs etc. and you can HEAR the cadence of the idle is off of its regular sound, but get her out and let her roll , come to a stop, she sounds great. Thoughts?

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/04/01 00:36

According to Doc on the PMS:

Turn it in slowly until the engine stumbles. Then counting the turns go back out until the engine starts to stumble again. Go back in half the turns you went out and that should be good. So if you had to go out 4 turns to get it to stumble go back in 2 turns.

Edit to your edit - Try turning your idle speed up a little.

This could almost sound like SVS also.
still suffer from the 1 mile spit,stall,hiccup,backfire,etc.etc.etc. after inital warm-up for about a mile then it's gone

Time to hit the sack. Talk to you in the AM.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/04/01 00:44

10-4
Don't laugh too hard , as I am going to try to explain over the computer how it idles.

Around town : labored, BUPP..BUPP..BUPP heavy sounding
After a good spirited run: clean, budoop,budoop,bup,bup,budoop,budoop,bup,bup.... free breathing.

So after the good run it doesn't have any trouble at a stop until the next day and it starts all over again?

Yes, unless I get back in stop and go traffic and it resumes the labored idle again after some time. That could be the results of it running rich? perhaps loading the cylinders?

If your lean on the bottom end then I don't know how it could be loading up in slow traffic from being rich Try setting you PMS like Doc says and take her for a ride. Check your choke and make sure it's going all the way off. don't just check at the knob to see if it's all the way in. Check the cable down by the carb and see if you can move it anymore with the knob all the way in. I gotta go to bed. I'm falling asleep here.
