Gremlin Discovered ! AIS / manifold Air leak. 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Removed my AIS last winter and Closed of the Vacum spigot on the Manifold with a rubber Vacum cap as sold at any automotive place . Started having strange Fuel economy , lean running, Bacfireing and Carb Coughing / Idle tuneing Issues a week or so ago and looked for advise here .....got lots of good advise as usual and thanks to those folks. Decided to re jet once more to sort some things out and discovered the Top of the Rubber plug litteraly blown off . ( that must have been the first Backfire ) This time I threaded it and installed a Stainless bolt with some RTV sealant . Fuel economy is Back and Running Perfectly . 182.5 mikuni Main jet , 37.5 Pilot jet ,PMS 3.25 turns out ,Kuryakyn Needle at second clip , went back to stock .100 Idle Air bleed . Bike has Never run better in my opinion . 41 us MPG 50 Canadian MPG loaded 2 up with all Bags . ( some town but mostly Road Driving )

Sailrider

So the actual fix was ensuring the manifold port was properly closed up? reason i ask is that I also have the AIS system removed and have noticed a significant amount of backfiring lately coupled with poor MPG.

I'll check out the maifold port and get back to you.

Thanks

Thanks sailrider I have worked long and hard to get mine running right and tuned right. Think I have done 4 dyno runs and been in the carb heck knows how many times. Some of the old guys on here will tell ya I was the butt of the joke for a long time because of my jetting. I got it down at the end I could rejet in 15 minutes. I haven't been in the carb in about two years now. Once ya get it right you can leave it alone.
