The TPS No No 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Why is it bad to unplug the TPS wire from the carb? I want to replace my float needle and then will have to check my float level. I know the easiest way to do this is on the bench top but when I rejetted the tech article real strongly advised against removing the TPS plug from my carb. How can I get the carb on my bench? Is it an adjustment required after removal? is there another way to remove it (the other end maybe)? Can I just unplug the batterey first?

Not sure what article your reading, but there is no problem UNPLUGGING the tps, what you don't want to do is remove the unit from the carb cause then you will need to re-adjust it..

I see, my mistake, I miss took the directions "Do not disconnect the throttle Position sensor from the Carburetor." LOL jetting sure would have been easier if I had read that correctly. I did it all dangling from a wire

I did the same thing when I changed the bowl o-ring. Thought it was a no no so I did the wire hanging thing also. Thanks for asking the question SurveyWaters. Will make it much easier when it comes time to re-jet. Thanks for the info Flashback.

Man I feel much better now having been into my carb 3-4 times, and a friends a couple of times and all of them the dangly method. I learned too late that the TPS can be unplugged a little way down the line and the whole carb can then be take where ever you want. But I will say the Cam cover makes pretty stable bench for working on the carb
