If you're on 3 and it runs great then you're OK. You may still be rich on the main but you won't notice it.

You can't do the WOT with the clip on 3 ... it must be on 5.

Why? I've never had to move mine. You don't think in 4th gear at WOT the needle is not fully out of the main jet if in 3rd or 4th groove? All my runs have been in 4th gear, at max 4900rpm, tech always stays 100rpm below limiter, at least the guy that I use.

"must" may have been too hard of a word.

As quoted in the Tech Article ... "To get best results set needle clip on the 5th clip before trying this. Clip positions above the 5th clip have mixed results, and some folks ended up getting reads on the needle instead of the main."

If it worked for you then .... great.

Remember folks ... jetting is an art. What works for some may not work for others. We only give basic guidelines and settings, the rest is up to you.

What kind of intake do you have? Is it open all the way around? Is there any oil from the breather hose accumulating? Have you checked the exhaust pressure (use a thick rag and cover each pipe and compare)? Is your oil level where it's supposed to be? Your jetting seems fairly normal, but the black smoke you stated you had after you first jetted it makes me think your problem is carbon build up, or oil from the breather burning through your engine.

First off, I've seen about 20 different peoples dyno runs, and I've never come across a data sheet that looks like yours. Never seen one that shows a hard line for rpm. Never seen one where the AFR takes up a complete sheet either. I also never seen anyone who needed to go to a 45 pilot jet unless they were compensating for an air leak. I have tuned about 5, 6 carbs, and have never had to go past stock pilot jet and no one is lean. As far as my carb, I run the 42hsr, a much better carb than the stocker. My idle is 13AFR, cruise (65mph, 4th gear AFR of 14) and WOT is at 12.5 AFR. My tq at peak is just shy of 99, a straight line from 2200rpm to 3300rpm. Consistently get 50mpg hwy and 42, 45 city mpg. At 75mph 5th gear, I won't drop a gear to pass either. And peak hp is 68.7 at 4800rpm. Not bad for as bike that was 52hp and 88ft tq. No internal engine work either. Pipes, 42hsr, and my own fabrication of a universal K&N air filter for Mikuni carbs. According to Speedstar dyna runs,(on web site) stage 2 yields aprox a 20% increase in HP over stock, I got 30%, the extra is because of the 42hsr.

Guess you still don't know how to read the dyno sheet. I guess my dyno HP and Torque are pretty good for a bike that according to you is jetted wrong and has a air leak. Maybe you haven't seen a dyno sheet like mine but don't call it wrong. I guess you haven't seen and done everything. And by the way I got 50.04 MPG on a 100 mi test run as per your challange and I have less mods than you do. My HP and Torque are the same as yours and my afr is the same in all ranges. I just got there in a differant way than you did. I'm not trying to be the best and challange everybody's opinion and advice ,But it sure does bother me when somone else does on almost every post they make!!! were just a bunch of guys trying to help out others and some need to chill.
