Re:Problems with 03 Roadstar. Need advice 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I drained the tank and pulled the carb apart today and got some stuff out. I pulled the little filter on the carb and cleaned it out. I also installed the ported intake I bought. I am looking at a jet kit on ebay and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. P/N SPD-4WM09-49-10. I thought I would re-jet the carb before I put it back on. Thanks for the help, Paul.

That is Yamahas speedstar jet kit, it will have a multi grove needle and Mikuni jets which is what is in your carb now. The needle may be a little fatter than some of the others I am not sure. Maybe some one will chime in that does. It will do the job for you just double check the dealers prices and don't overpay. Some times you can get it cheaper local without the shipping charges.

The speedstar needle is fatter. That is what I'm running. If you get it you will be using a larger main than what you see others here on the forum use. I'm still running a 182.5 main but with a 45 pilot and a speedstar needle 4th notch 2 silver washers. And it dynoed with an AFR in cruising range at 14.2 and WOT at around 13. I'm running a BAK, lightly ported manifold and Speedstar pipes.

What are the outside temps? When it gets down around 32 here I have to pull the choke out just about 1/8th until it gets really warmed up otherwise mine will do the same thing. Once she's warmed up for about 10 minutes, I can push the choke back in all the way, but might need to pull it out again if I get into a stiff (COLD) breeze.

Temps are pretty warm. At least in the 70's. I picked up the Yamaha jet kit so I am going to try that and check the float level.
