Non guru here

Dealers usually jet too rich. You will need to open the carb up and see what you have in there right now.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/04/28 14:16

Digger--

They are indeed stamped... here's the stock main jet and needle from my '04 Roadie... these are Mikuni jets, which are numbered differently than Dynojet jets, but there's a comparison table in the Tech Tips section under "Carbs" to show you how the two types differ.

Hey digger

The stock main for the 1600 is a Mikuni 165. They are marked. Mik and Dyno use a different system so you can't swap number for number. The stock main might or might not be too small. We need to know what you have for a main, pilot, needle, and PMS to start. You can check the jets and needle without taking the carb off but you will need to take the tank off to check the needle.

5th groove is good for checking the main with the WOT but you don't want to run it that way all the time.

I have the BAK with Cobra Lo-Boys

170 Mik main
35 pilot
Needle on 4th
PMS at about 2 1/4
Poted manifold
Around 44 mpg

Your are running rich.

Lots of good advice here but you're going to have to take that sucker off to see what you have.

Before you take it off, check the float level and go out and do the WOT test.

If you have a BAK then it's a high probability that you have Mikuni jets in it. Good guess on the 172.5 (too fat)

Need to know the other specs on your bike.

Pipes ?
Internal mods ?
Stock carb ?
