Where To Go From Here? 3 Years, 3 Months ago
took everyones advice and just put in the ported manifold and need some help with the jetting.

1600 currently running BAK, 2 into 1 sideburner, and ported manifold. theres a 167 main in there now and it pops like crazy on decel.

also, will i need to do anything with the pilot jet?

and finally, if i do get it set up right and later want to change pipes will i have to rejet again?

oh and i live in los angeles for elevation reference.

If it's backfiring then you have and exhaust leak. If it's popping at lower revs the try turning your PMS out 1/4 turn at a time until it disappears but not more than 4 1/2 turns out. More that that and you will need to change out the pilot jet.

If you change pipes then you may need to rejet ... the bike will tell you.

no backfire and the pop happens on deceleration (coming up to a light, getting off the freeway, etc)

The elevation for there shows from 125 to 330 ft above sea level and if you running a 167 Mikuni jet that is too lean for there. Try a 172.5 or 170 work with the 172.5 first. What is your needle set at? What are the turns out on your PMS?

If all you did was to install a ported manifold and you did not have this decel popping before the install, I would highly suggest you look for air leaks at the manifold to head joint. If the bike ran fine with with the main jet you have had in there, it should still be ok, porting will make for a slightly richer condition since it will eliminate the turbulence that the sharp corners cause in a stock manifold, gas will atomize better with a ported manifold.

As I said, if you didn't have this issue before, I'll bet there is an air leak.

Actually it did pop before which is another reason i went to the ported manifold. i had read on here that the stock ones don't seal so i thought i'd kill two with one and have a good seal and increased power.i'll check at the header though. anybody ever heard of using 2 gaskets at each header?

I have used two gaskets. It may help on tightening the nut.

Just make sure you re-tighten after some riding.

Also loosen the rear pipes mount until you get the engine end real snug. Then tighten those rear support bolts.
