Digger--
If it looks like the one I posted but has a 170 instead of the 182.5, then it's a Mikuni jet (the one I posted was my stock Mikuni jet). I have Dynojet jets in there now, and they don't have the "R" and the square (Cougar said that's a Mikuni trademark).
So, if yours is a 1600, they came stock with the 165 Mikuni, and you have a 170 in there now (or higher), you're running much richer than stock.

Opened it up looks like a 175 /57.5 /45 needle, looks like they may have moved the clip to 4th groove. I`m not sure how to remove the needle from the slide but on the paper i got looks like they moved it to 4th clip. allso the knob under BAK that adjust what is it and whats the setting. Thanks in advance guys.

Digger, those #'s sound kinda strange. 175 is the main. If they used the barons kit , that's too rich. Get a 170 main (mukuni). 35 should be your pilot. Needle in the forth slot from the top. Needle come out from the top, pull the black cap(watch out for the spring) remove the slide carefully, looking down the center, you will see a white "cap", pull it easy with some needle nose pliers(watch for small spring), then turn it upside down and the needle will fall out(catch it). Then you will know how it is set. Reverse order for install.
The knob below the BAK is your idle(up/down) knob.BB

Hey Musky looks like i may have same setup as you have.Running real rich slide is all carboned up. If going from a 175 to a 170 make a big change or should i try the 165 and the 35.

STOP Take a deep breath and slow down
When doing carb tuning it's best to do one thing at a time, one step at a time.
So .... change the main but only go down one size. Do the WOT test. Adjust if necessary.
Then move to the needle. As yours if already at 4, just check to see how it runs warm and cold .... soft on throttle, surging at speed, etc. You'll probably only nice to add or subtract a shim thickness.
PMS can be set to abut 3 for now or just do the in/out routine to find the sweet spot.
If you change two things at a time then if it runs worse you don't know which one it is the culprit.

Kind of new at this so it`s a learn as you go thing. I used the 170/35 like Musky`s as we may have the same setup, seems to run pretty good.Keep an eye on mpg see if it gets better. Still got some poping at carb on decell and throttle twist. Also need some schooling on ( pms)and WOT test. Going to look for some links and diagrams to help understand. Thanks a whole lot to all you guys the wealth of wisdom here is great.

Hey digger
Don't be surprised if you need to tweak. My settings are somewhere for you to start but you might need to adjust from there. For one I have a 1700. You have a 1600. But it's all easy and when you do it you learn more about your bike and you know it's done right. You can try going out a 1/4 turn on the PMS and see if that helps the popping.

Amen to that! I don't know about the "expert" part, but the wealth of information there is amazing. Still waiting on parts so I can do some tweaking on the carb; going to go back to a #35 pilot jet in hopes of improving my MPG and replacing the needle valve so I can eliminate the fuel pump. I'm also going to install the MaxAir PMS screw. This will be my fist attempt at working on a carb and without the "Tech Tips" and good advise from the clinic members, I doubt I'd be trying it. I've never been afraid of any other aspect of maintenance or working on my own bikes or vehicles, but for some reason carb work has always intimidated me. But after reading through and studying the various tech tips I feel good about doing it. So when the parts show up I'll say a pray, take a deep breath and keep my fingers crossed!!
In The Wind,
Aaron
