jimbo218 said: Also if I put said pipes on my bike, will it enhance mileage &/or performance with aftermarket airkit, or will there be substantial improvement with just the pipes/ I put V-H longshots on a '99 Kawai Drifter I had once, but it was fuel injected. They said they had to do very little mappimg and I could tell a HUGE difference in performance

If your scoot has fuel injection, it determines fuel/air needs and constantly self-adjusts.

Pipes and/or air kit should not faze your fuel injected scoot, although you could re-map for better performance.

Still raining here. I can't find the ebay sites which the guy had parts for sale. He must have sold everything he had posted. Once the rain stops I will check the fuel consumption. I'm almost positive there was also a modified air box. The bike was built by LA Choppers.

Re:Jetting and MPG 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I filled up the bike today. 3.9 gallons for my first day of riding. I filled up the bottom of the filler tube, went for a 30 mile ride, filled up with 1.6 gallons, same pump, same place.
I looked at the air filter, it is dirty. I notice there is missing tubes or hoses in the carb area. I'm going to take it to the shop to have them install the factory jets. Take their advice on the missing tubes. Replace the air filter. There is no smell of gas, nor is there any smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The bike rides great. If I can get this bike up to 30 mpg I'll be happy. Right now it is around 20 mpg.

Usually the major cause of poor mileage is too rich jets.

If you have the factory pipes and airbox then just have them put back the OEM jets.

New question. The bike came from California. I bought it in Phoenix, AZ. I live in the high desert in Arizona, elevation 5,000'. I mostly ride here and Flagstaff (elevation 7,000', where the shop is, do I need to have the OEM jets adjusted for elevation?

You could try a 170 mik main with the stock needle. See what happens. Probably need to adjust the PMS to make the bike happy.

I live in Phoenix... If you find yourself this way soon, I'll help you pull it apart and get it running right.

Rule of thumb is one jet leaner for every 5000'.

either take the tank, or airbox, or fuel pump, and look to see if the intake manifold has a port.
and check your oil for fuel, because if you can let her idle and stand 6 feed behind it, and the raw fuel don burn your eyes man... its got to be going somewhere.

try closing the intake with your hand (at idle, warmed) does it go right out with little restriction or does it chug/cough.

now, this here is all you need. (and the mount, and the standoff's, an some washers, and a maskingtape gasket...)

it's no wonder i'm broke!!! I own a R*

if you got that kind of mileage cruising, meaning not doing 80 plus, I would certainly look to see if they replaced the pilot jet. Myself, I've always used 65mph to test and check for mpg's, this is the same speed that Mikuni uses for thier mpg results. and at your elevation, you will need to use leaner jetting then those at sea level.
