also keep in mind if going back to stock carb configuration, you will need to put the stock filter on as well. Any air kit that is more free flowing will have to be jetted.

Yes, thanks Curt! I sent you PM.
Carmen

BTW, Erbman02 thanks, the airbox and filter are stock. Just replaced filter about 1,500 miles ago. How often do they get changed? Do you guys go by the book's schedule for that or do you have your own schedule?

Get a K&N filter for the stock airbox. The stock filters are known for coming unglued and letting unfiltered air, and probably filter pieces too, in to the carb. The K&N will last for years with just cleaning and re-oiling. You'll save money in the long run. I think the part number is YA1699.

as far as an air filter, you change it when the compressor blow gun doesnt clean it anymore!!!

the air filter is somthing you might do 10-20K mi depending on use conditions.

There is a part in the carb called a needle jet, part #25 in service manual, basically a tube that the needle goes up and down in. but in 5yrs on various roadie forums, that has never been changed by anyone. and I don't ever recall anyone bringing that subject up as well.

is that what over this side of the pond we call an emulsion tube?

if so, interesting side note..

the yam super tenere, tdm 850, and trx 850, have a problem with them.

the bikes start showing high fuel consumption and an inability to hold idle below 3000rpm. here in spain the stealers say that they need new carbs and the owners sell a kidney and ride off with the bike working again.

the problem is the needles peen the emulsion tubes and make the hole go oval. iīve only come across it on these bikes and no others. repaired 3 in the last 2 years.

new tubes = 30 euros + 1 1/2 hours labour, and the client rides off with both kidneys intact and smiling.

sorry `bout the derail, but i thought it was interesting...

NO, the emulsion tube is that short brass tube that the main jet screws into, also called a spacer as per manual item 24 or called a ring in parts fiche, the extra space allows the gas from main jet to start the atomization process. I can't see how a needle jet would oval unless the needle itself was real real sloppy to move that much with-in the needle jet to cause it to oval. keep in mind, that when the fattest part of the needle is in the needle jet., there has to be space around it for the fuel to get past as far as the emulsifier tube(spacer)there's no way for that to oval since the needle does not enter it at all

ah right, it was a conflict between english-english and american english

we call that part the float valve cheers for clarifying that

on the carbs on the TDM etc, the emulsion tube (itīs in one piece with no spacer)that the main jet screws into protrudes slightly into the venturi of the carb and the slide needle enters it. the problem normally starts showing up around 30,000 miles.

itīs a VERY common problem with those carbs
