Yes, if the AIS is hooked up then you sill get slight popping from the exhaust. Look in the Tech Tips section for AIS info.

Re:Need Advise from carb guru 1 Year, 8 Months ago
2nd Update; Finally ran through a full tank of gas after rejetting. A combination of interstate, state and county highways and in-town traffic and I'm up to 39 MPG. Definitely an improvement over 31-32 but still not as good as I'd like, since I was at 42-45 before having it rejetted. Any suggestions on how to get it back into the 40 MPG range? Current carb settings are; 175 main jet, 35 pilot jet and 3 1/8th turns on the PMS. I'm not sure about the needle, but if it's where Cobra recommends, the clip is in the 4th groove from the top. I've actually thought about putting it back to stock to see what happens, because the only side-effect I had then was some backfiring on decel, but the AIS was still installed. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appriciated. And thanks Doc for the suggestion regarding the fuel lines and choke knob; a coworker and fellow rider suggested I do the same but I just hadn't gotten to it yet.
Thanks again for everyones help!!

In The Wind,
Aaron

Aaron,

The lower mileage may just be your driving style but if you want to go leaner I'd do the following one at a time .....

- put a DJ170 in there and try it out
- move the needle clip up 1/2 (put the clip in 3 and use 2 washers under the white spacer instead of one)

You may need to adjust the PMS as necessary if either or both the above work out.

Remember to take not of the current carb settings so that you can go back to them if you have problems.

Thanks Doc!
I decided that since I'm leaving to go out of town tomorrow after work I'm not going to make any changes yet. I've got about 250 miles on the current settings and it's running good and I feel confident about the bike and the work I did, so I'm not going to "tinker" with it right before I go out of town. I think that may be asking for trouble! And since it'll be about 1,000 miles round-trip, I'll have a better idea of what my actual MPG are by the time I'm back. But I'll definitely make a note of your recomendations in case I still need, or want to make changes.
Thanks again!!

Aaron

Hey Doc, OK just went up to 3 3/4 turns on PMS. Looks like AIS is still connected. That is all that crap in front of motor right? filter box etc. While out riding can i block it off (small hose) at that pump with a golf tee to try it because it easy to get at there.

If your AIS is hooked up that's why you are getting the popping.

Disconnect the the AIS hose that runs to the manifold and stick the tee into the manifold side.

Then you can re-adjust the PMS using the in/out method to find the sweet spot. If still get a bit of popping on decel, turn the PMS out 1/4 turn.

No. The rev limiter is built into the ignition module. The OEM is non-adjustable.

If you want to adjust the rev limit you need to buy a Dyna or RevMaster.
